This is not a retreat you attend — it’s a way of life you step into.

Welcome to Ikaria, one of the world’s original Blue Zones — a place where people live well into old age not because they try to, but because of how they live each day.
Hosted at Thea’s Inn, this intimate experience offers a rare opportunity to slow right down and experience longevity as it’s truly lived.

A Lived Blue Zones Immersion
Here, longevity is shaped by simple, repeatable rituals — shared meals, daily movement, deep rest, meaningful conversation and strong community ties. There are no schedules to chase or outcomes to achieve. Just time, presence, and a gentle return to what matters.

Daily Life, the Ikarian Way

Across the week, we’ll weave ourselves into island life — enjoying traditional Ikariote breakfasts in local homes, cooking and eating alongside locals, visiting farms, vineyards and beekeepers, and spending unhurried afternoons at the beach or wandering through village squares simply watching life unfold.

And yes — there will be grape stomping. Because why wouldn’t there be? (So long as the seasons behave the way they're supposed to).

Food, Ritual & Connection
Food is at the heart of Ikarian life. Together, we’ll prepare simple, seasonal meals using local produce, cook outdoors, share long lunches, and explore the deep connection between nourishment, pleasure and longevity — not as a theory, but as daily practice.

Space to Rest, Reflect & Simply Be

There is built-in downtime, space for conversation and reflection, gentle nature walks, hot spring visits, and plenty of unscheduled time — because rest is not a reward here, it’s a given.

This experience runs from 9–16 October, when island life is slower, warmer, and deeply rooted in harvest rhythms.
Everything you need is held — your only task is to arrive and settle in.

Slow down. Eat well. Live longer — the Ikarian way.

WHERE YOU'LL STAY

Tucked into the picturesque village of Nas, Thea’s Inn sits where a river valley meets the sea — surrounded by walking trails, quiet beaches, and the gentle rhythm of everyday Ikarian life.

Family-run for over twenty years, Thea's Inn is still very much a lived home. Thea and her family remain closely involved, with the next generation now stepping in — something she speaks about with obvious pride. It’s this sense of continuity, care and connection that makes staying here feel so personal.

Much of what you’ll eat comes straight from the family’s organic farm, tended by Thea’s husband and brought to the kitchen each morning. Meals are simple, seasonal and deeply rooted in tradition — prepared in the same way they’ve been for generations.

At the heart of the kitchen is Athina, the much-loved resident cook who shared many traditional Ikarian recipes with the Blue Zones research team. Her story — and her food — feature in The Blue Zones Kitchen, and you’ll taste exactly why.

Evenings often begin on the restaurant terrace, one of the most beautiful spots on the island. As the sun drops into the Aegean, a glass of wine here feels less like a ritual and more like common sense.

Accommodation is simple and rustic — five comfortable rooms with ceramic tile floors, twin beds, private bathrooms and French doors opening onto balconies overlooking the sea. Each room includes a small refrigerator, perfect for storing fresh fruit, herbs or anything you might gather during a walk or hike.

This is not luxury in the polished sense — but it is rich in all the ways that matter.
A place that feels real, rooted, and deeply Ikarian.

Meet your Host in Ikaria ~ Thea

Thea is not a retreat host in the modern sense — she is a custodian of Ikarian life.

Born and raised on the island, Thea has spent decades welcoming people into her family home, kitchen and community. Long before Ikaria was labelled a Blue Zone, this way of living was simply everyday life — shared meals,

seasonal food, movement built into the day, strong social ties and deep respect for rest.

When Blue Zones researchers, led by Dan Buettner, came to Ikaria, Thea’s Inn became a natural place of connection. Her family, her kitchen, and her long-time resident cook Athina played a meaningful role in sharing traditional Ikarian foodways, many of which were later documented and featured in The Blue Zones Kitchen.

What makes this experience special is not the research — it’s the continuity. The same rhythms, recipes and rituals are still lived here today. Nothing has been recreated for visitors. Nothing is staged.

Together, Thea and Lisa have designed this experience to offer respectful access to that world — combining deep local knowledge with thoughtful guidance, space for reflection, and a shared love of food, community and slow living.

Hello,
I'm
Lisa Marie Staab

Conscious Living Mentor & Mindful Foodie

I’m a retreat facilitator, Camino guide, and Conscious Living Mentor with a background that blends mindfulness, wellness, food, and travel — and a deep love of creating experiences where people can genuinely slow down, reconnect, and feel well cared for.

I’m a Certified Mindfulness & Meditation Teacher and Wellness Mentor, a trained chef, and (because why not) I also hold a Diploma of International Travel. I’m a member of Meditation Australia, the Wellness Tourism Association, and I work as a Fora Travel Advisor, which means the retreats I design are not only meaningful — they’re professionally planned, responsibly run, and thoughtfully curated.

I’ve been hosting small, intentionally paced retreats for several years now, weaving together mindful walking, nourishing food, rest, and real conversation — alongside evidence-informed principles from the Blue Zones (think longevity, community, and living well for the long haul).

My approach brings mindfulness out of the meditation room and into real life — on the trail, at the table, and in the everyday moments that actually shape how we live.

I’m also a LUXlife Award-winning transformational Coach, a mother to two (one adult, one teenager), an ex-corporate chick turned life adventurer, and someone who believes deeply in good food, shared laughter, and creating spaces where people feel safe to simply be themselves.

At the heart of everything I do is this:
retreats that are grounded, human, and beautifully run — without fluff, pressure, or pretence.
