Are you a Mindful Foodie
If you're ready to explore and savour life as a Mindful Foodie, then I invite you to join me in Puglia, Italy, in May 2024.
What does that mean? I hear you say. Well, I love food. Always have. I'm also a Mindfulness & Meditation Teacher and sometimes these worlds sit too far apart, for me anyway.
Mindfulness in everyday life doesn't mean we have to give up the joy of a delicious meal shared with friends and a glass of wine.
In fact, it allows us to enjoy it even more!
Think of your favourite food moment. I know you have one.
Chances are that you were practicing the art of Mindfulness, whether you realised it or not.
You were truly present for every mouthful, for the textures, tastes and smells.
Think Abundant and Diverse.
Between the fresh groves of olive, almond and citrus, the vineyards, the wheat fields and the fruits of the sea, Puglia cuisine offers an abundance of healthy, fresh and—most importantly—delicious regional specialties.
Each ruling civilization left its mark on Puglia’s cuisine.
From the Greeks, the population learned to love spit-roasted lamb and honey-glazed desserts.
From the Romans came their love of wine and olive oil.
Of course we can't not mention the most famous Pugliese dish, Orecchiette, accompanied by beautiful breads and divine cheeses, mostly served with fresh local greens.
We'll be discovering more as we join a local cooking class, wander the markets and dine at local waterfront restaurants.
This little town in Puglia is the first place that greets the sun every day, being Italy’s most easterly city. But it’s also a mix of history, architecture, views, and amazing beaches, making Otranto one of the most charming and picturesque places in Puglia.
Once you’re there, it’ll come as no surprise that Otranto is counted on the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy. It’s an absolute dream destination!
Otranto is located right on the Adriatic Sea, looking through the Strait of Otranto towards the Balkans and Greece. On the other side of the Otranto strait, Puglia is bathed by the Ionian Sea. This location gives Otranto two different types of beaches, sandy on the Adriatic part and rocky on the Ionian.
Four miles south of Otranto, you will find the lighthouse of Punta Pelascia overlooking the spot where the Adriatic sea and the Ioania sea meet. On clear days you can see the Balkan mountains on the horizon. It's a perfect place to immerse our senses in a Pugliese experience.
